@PhoenixCityPod in regards to the discussion of a pacific team, I did a bit of research into it a year or two ago as part of an article on possible a-league expansions, and from what I found out a team based in Fiji and travelling was really the only feasible option. 1/n
Fiji has a sizeable national stadium of theoretically 18k (although in reality it seems to be considerably smaller), and although it's mainly used for rugby it can be used for football, as the socceroos played there in 2001. 2/n
It has the largest population of all the Pacific Islands, with just shy of 900k, which gives it a big possible fan base, which also has the added bonus of attracting larger sponsors 3/n
They also have a decent footballing record, being in the top four at the Pacific games since 2003. There is also the obvious chance of attracting a superstar to boost the team in the form of Roy Krishna. 4/n
However, for all the reasons that you mentioned they have to play games in other countries, as they simply cannot have a big enough player pool or fan base with their population alone
However, even though bringing a top level sports franchise to a region that doesn't have any would generate large interest, the team would struggle to find sponsors or have a lucrative TV deal, so I doubt that even a team that ticked all the boxes would be viable financially. 5/5
