I wanted to be one of the first to send my congratulations to @captaintommoore on surpassing Stephen’s fundraising total of £5,233,916 for @TeenageCancer
My understanding is that Stephen’s total, until today, was the highest total raised by an individual on @JustGiving . That baton has now passed to Captain Tom and could not have gone to a more worthy individual.
Raising £10,000 for @TeenageCancer was no.1 on Stephen’s bucket list as a way of thanking the charity for the support it had given him during his cancer journey.
My initial reaction to raising £10,000 was ‘how on earth are we going to raise that much money’?
That initial total was reached within three weeks and the public has kept on donating which has been so heart-warming when you consider next month will be six years since Stephen passed away.
Like then, the public, especially the British public has dug deep and shown its overwhelming support for @captaintommoore since he began his 100th Birthday Walk for the @NHSuk @NHS looking to raise £1000.
This country has always pulled together in times of adversity and once again it has demonstrated its kindness and generosity in supporting @captaintommoore and our @NHS @NHSuk .
Keep on walking Captain Tom and many happy returns for your 100th birthday on 30 April.
