1/4: I have been thinking about the often-false dichotomy between privacy and safety, and in particular how setting those two up as opposites pushes people into sacrificing privacy when they didn't have to. Consider for example this software from Aus: https://sondersafe.com/how/
2/4: On the one hand, it's voluntary (good), and its privacy policy says it doesn't share information your without consent (good, assuming we have the same understanding of what consent is).
3/4: But the marketing is predicated on the assumption that young women must earn their safety by surrendering their intended and current location to a protector. This seems a false bargain - young women deserve to be safe *and* retain privacy and control.

4/4: So how can we educate all people, when presented with two apparent options (especially one that pits safety against privacy) to step back and demand a third alternative that maintains our safety without sacrificing our privacy? @bipr @chrisculnane @kobotic @thkukutai
