@jocotterillbook is right. The story is more nuanced but doesn't negate the fact that MPs, who can already claim £26000 in office expenses, have just had another £10000 added to it. Have I missed reports of them taking a pay cut like in New Zealand? https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-52231592
And just to clarify, I appreciate the workload of most MPs has probably gone through the roof so they need a way to work from home and communicate remotely with their constituents but the optics of this looks opportunistic to say the least.
Just to further clarify, this is an expense which has to be justified and claimed by MPs. It's not just 'given'. What I stated was misleading. I look forward to public scrutiny of MPs expenses on this front - cause we all know MPs wouldn't abuse their own expenses system.
