No amount of worrying can change the future. Go easy on yourself, for the outcome of all affairs is determined by God's decree. If something is meant to go elsewhere, it will never come your way, but if it is yours by destiny, from you it cannot flee.
—Umar ibn Al-Khattab r.a
Umar ibn Al-Khattab r.a was Prophet's adviser known for his devout & just nature, which earned him the title Al-Farooq, the person who recognises among right and wrong. He was a victorious Arab Commander stern toward guilty parties, and himself austere to the point of brutality.
Umar Farooq r.a. said "Do not be fooled by the one who recites the Quran. His recitation is but speech, but look to those who act according to it and don’t forget your own self while preaching to others."
Umar r.a. said "Let not your love become attachment, nor your hate become destruction. The best way to defeat someone is to beat them at politeness. Be patient, patience is a pillar of faith and sit with those who have sinned and repented for they have the softest of hearts".
Umar r.a. said "Whosoever shows you your faults is your friend. Those that pay you lip service in praise are your executioners and he who does not live in the way of his beliefs starts to believe in the way he lives."
Abu Bakr r.a. wanted to continue his business as a merchant while he was the caliph. Umar r.a. convinced him not to do so and made him accept a salary from the treasury. He was firm in his point of view that the statesmen shouldn't do personal business while acting as leaders.
Umar r.a. ensured the independence of judiciary and prevented influence from other pillars of the state in their decision making. He also submitted to decisions taken against him by judges. He argued that Head of State may only issue general guidelines to the judiciary.
