A question for all our interesting followers if you have a few spare mins? What is your favourite #lostbuilding? Any country, any century....

Here's one of ours - the Custom House in Liverpool damaged (but not destroyed) by bombs in 1941 & needlessly demolished in 1948
It was designed by the (rather overlooked) Greek revival architect & Liverpool town surveyor - John Foster - and built on site of historic docks in 1839.

Most surviving photos don't show you that it was H shaped - as you can see here....
It features in quite a few of the paintings by one of the best painters of streets, cities and nightscapes - John Atkinson Grimshaw. Here's one of them....
During first eight days of May 1941, Merseyside was bombed almost every night. 1,900 people were killed, 1,450 seriously wounded & 70,000 made homeless. One of the victims (to left of this photo via @I_W_M) was the Custom House...
… and here is Liverpool after the war - photo from the brilliant @HistoricEngland
It was very badly damaged but not destroyed. Sadly....
…. and in face of considerable opposition it was demolished. The site then lay open and unused for many years. Here it is in 1963.
