Here's one of ours - the Custom House in Liverpool damaged (but not destroyed) by bombs in 1941 & needlessly demolished in 1948
It was designed by the (rather overlooked) Greek revival architect & Liverpool town surveyor - John Foster - and built on site of historic docks in 1839.

It features in quite a few of the paintings by one of the best painters of streets, cities and nightscapes - John Atkinson Grimshaw. Here's one of them....
During first eight days of May 1941, Merseyside was bombed almost every night. 1,900 people were killed, 1,450 seriously wounded & 70,000 made homeless. One of the victims (to left of this photo via @I_W_M) was the Custom House...
… and here is Liverpool after the war - photo from the brilliant @HistoricEngland
…. and in face of considerable opposition it was demolished. The site then lay open and unused for many years. Here it is in 1963.
