Y'all. I just typed the words THE END on my 8th book.
This book was sooooo hard to finish mainly due to relocation and someone's insistence that I adjust my writing schedule to fit around his lifestyle. A million fights later, after digging in my heels, I did it MY WAY.

I'm sharing this because artists need to know that they have to be willing to risk it ALL for their craft. Because it is ALWAYS the people you love the most and who claim to love and support you, that create the biggest distractions. The question is, what do you want more?
Now I love my man. But he does not know this business nor how to be a supportive partner to an artist. Most men don't. J. California Cooper once told me she never wrote a book while she was married. I totally see why now.
But I was an author before him. I was an author after others that didn't work out. I'm an author still. At some point we're gonna discuss his "support" but it's more important to me to support other authors in their journey. I'm married to this. It comes first. Period.
Because if we part and I didn't give my career my all, I'm gonna (rightly) feel like a dumb bitch for putting a man before my money and my brand. And well, if he can't deal with my ambition and it's inconveniences it's best we part ways.
Now when he lurks my tweets he's gonna be pissed. But occupational hazard of loving a public figure (of sorts). We share. That's why everybody ain't bout this life. I love him though. He just gotta get with the program.
