Fiji complained prior to the game that Tonga had ignored tournament rules of picking 6 homegrown players, instead Tonga went with an NRL heavy squad. Fiji still won in a tense seesawing battle.

Every Tongan match at the 2017 RLWC had drama and this was no different. Mitch Moses was superb thru out, setting up Abbas Miski to score the try of the tournament.
