why the fight vs @billboard is like the first hunger games book, a dumb thread:
i've read the first book around 10 times; it's one of my favorite dystopian novels, & has proven itself to be a very clever way of criticizing classism, & racism. in the scenario that i'll be describing, bb is the capitol & the fanbase's movement is the 74th hunger games. +
both stories start off w a hiccup. katniss volunteers in a district where no one's volunteered in years, & bb applies a policy to 5sos that they haven't applied in years. while both outcomes are bad, katniss believes it's for the best, & we all agree that #2 is still amazing. +
there are several times in the beginning of thg where the capitol is proven wrong. first with d12's splash at the chariot parade, where everyone had low expectations of them. then w katniss getting an 11 after the gamemakers' evaluation where she shot the apple. +
we've also proven bb wrong on many levels. we still haven't shut up after over a week, despite radio silence from them (other than dave). we've gained attention that bb probably wasn't expecting & proven that we're not mindless; we're intelligent people worthy of our cause. +
there are so many aspects of corruption katniss points out. the capitol favors the career tributes, giving them a step up in the games by funding training from a young age, similar to how bb seems to favor certain artists from republic, bc they were their label of the year. +
the way the capitol focuses on trivial things like appearance rather than human lives being lost can be a metaphor for how billboard cares more about the money than the work that artists put into their work, & showing no regrets when they screw them over. +
now into the games: katniss survives for much longer than viewers expect, which, again, is similar to how this movement has gone on for much longer than anyone expected. she goes through serious setbacks, beating dehydration, tracker jackers, & a literal fireball. +
we've faced down dave who spoke too soon, other fanbases' attacks, & billboard's continued ignorance. in doing so, like katniss, we've gained support. the media outlets & personalities are like the sponsors that katniss gets. +
if you take anything away from this completely pointless thread, let it be this: remember that katniss wins the hunger games—& later, the whole war. she embarrasses president snow & the capitol with her stunt w the berries, even though they're the most powerful in the plot. +
katniss gains followers from the common people. & the districts outnumber the capitol by so many. so keep pushing. billboard may have money & power, but they are absolutely nothing against thousands of raging fans. #billboardspeakup #billboardstepup #addressthe10k +
also note that claudius templesmith announces the the revocation of a single victor due to the audience's obsession w peeta & katniss' "star-crossed romance". if we pressure bb enough, they can also take a closer look at their "rulebook". #billboardspeakup #addressthe10k +
disclaimer: i am in no way serious. i made a joke about claudius templesmith when this all began & that's why this thread exists. there are so many more points of similarity i see but this thread would be too long so i'm gonna stop here. hope you enjoyed it! if you read this far.
