At some point, continuing to talk about a persons bad actions does more harm than good. Tr*sh* P*yt*s and On*s*on are two examples. They THRIVE on attention whether good or bad. When they stop receiving it, they'll eventually quit. For both of them, at this point,
Pissing people off has literally become their job. On*s*on has obviously fallen off the planet because he's facing actually legal repercussions, but Trish isn't. Every time she makes a controversial video, she knows she'll get click, and views, and comments. Aka, attention.
Not only that, but especially on YouTube, the more you interact with someone, the more likely it is that they will be put out there, and put on peoples' home pages, in front of more people, and the cycle continues.
Algorithms don't care if you comment is "yes I love you keep at it" or "you're such a terrible person just quit". The algorithm sees a comment. And interaction. And they see that they should promote this. It's the same on twitter, and Instagram.
Algorithms don't care about your opinion or why you're responding, they only care that you are, and that they should put this thing in front of more people because then that's more traffic to their site and more money in their pockets.
I can't control what people do, and I'm not trying to. But I need people to understand the reality of how the internet works. Everytime @TeaSpillYT watches someone video to get clips, that's a view. When @spillseshYT talks about someone, someone else will look them up.
When @JamesMarriottYT or @ImAllexx makes a video clowning on someone that's a group of people who might have never seen or heard of that person before.
I'm not trying to "cancel" or "call out" anyone here, but I am trying to educate. Hell, I doubt any of the people tagged will even see this, but if they do, know that I don't care one way or another what you say, do, or make. But I want you to think about really WHY.
Why are you talking about this person? Is it to educate people on why what they've done is wrong? If so, can it be done without inadvertently promoting them, like @PhillyD does occasionally in his shows, by blurring faces and censoring names?
Are you doing it because you hate the person? If so, could you do it, again, without promoting them? Could you instead focus your energy into promoting someone you do like instead?
Are you doing it just to get clicks by putting a famous person's name in your title and thumbnail? If so, why? I'm not saying it's wrong to do so, it's a perfectly valid marketing tactic. But why that one?
Again, I'm not trying to bash anyone with this thread. I'm simply trying to educate and get people to think critically about their actions. I don't care what anyone does after that, but I would hope that at least thought was put into it first
