Local advocacy group asks the city to consider opening streets to people in feasible locations to allow for physical distancing.

City issues press release saying this approach is contrary to advice of health experts as it could become a destination and spread COVID. #yxe
City cites low ped volumes, tells residents to spread out and one councillor accuses group of using the pandemic to advance their own cause. This is #yxe folks.
There is no recognition of the city's inadequate infrastructure or the fact that the weather has been 20 degrees below normal. Sidewalks and pathways throughout the city are not wide enough for people to pass each other 2m apart.
In many neighborhoods, those who are physically able can walk on the street, snowbank or grass without much issue. But as the weather warms it will be important for the city to look at areas where the infrastructure is making it difficult for physical distancing.
Does the city close parks, meewasin trail, make sidewalks one way and ticket those who walk too closely? Or do they look at ways to use the existing land that they already own and think about creating safe space for people to access the outdoors? #Leadership
I should say that in general I think the city and province are doing a great job managing through this pandemic. How will our leaders respond to the evolving needs of the community as spring finally arrives?
