THREAD: As much as I love #gaming I have to call out the shameful and greedy practice that some publishers and developers have implemented in their games with the #lootbox. Make no mistake it IS #gambling and companies like #EA and #2K are some of the biggest offenders. https://twitter.com/InsideGaming/status/1250240969116495873
#Parents need to pay attention to the games they give their kids or what their kids are buying. I don't care about mature ratings or gore and nudity but placing any form of gambling in games is predatory. Gambling is habit forming and addictive.
There have been many stories of families that have had thousands of dollars coming up missing from their bank accounts or credit cards because kids have been targeted by these companies with these gambling mechanics.
Expansion DLC or cosmetic items in games are fine as long as you know what you are getting and you know what they cost up front, but many games are doing it with random drops so you can spend a ton of money and still not get what you want and these companies FEED on that.
I beg of you, be a good parent and monitor what your kids are playing and keep gambling away from them. These companies must not be able to continue exploiting vulnerable children to keep making billions of dollars for crap that should have already been in the game.
Unfortunately, there is no ONE company, other than CD Projekt Red, that I can say their games are trustworthy when it comes to this kind of thing. Parents MUST be vigilant in monitoring their children's spending in video games.
Gaming is a wonderful medium and I have loved it my entire life. I will always be a gamer, but I will always advocate for ethical practices in games. Gambling with real money should have NO place in video games that can be played by children.
Again. Please do your homework on a game before you buy it for your kids. Sadly sports games by EA and 2K are the biggest offenders when it comes to gambling mechanics so please stay alert. END THREAD
