When we’re in the depth of this recession, regrets will be felt.

That regrets will signify the path we didn’t take. The gaps we didn’t plug. The priorities we misplaced.

And it’s too late now. The speed is too fast. The brakes are too loose.
It feels like we are approaching the end of the job hoarding/protection stage, with reports of massive layoff coming in.

We could still enlarge our wage subsidy program to protect what’s left, but with 1-month, the damage has been largely unmitigated.
For the middle class and above, they haven’t felt the recession yet. It’s all conceptual still.

Being stuck at home means they’re in a bubble, unable to see what is happening. That bubble will soon burst, as it progresses up from the poor to the “financially-stable.”
Our mistake was that we weren’t radical enough.

We were so unradical that our policymakers didn’t think of the economic repercussions. Once they were reminded, they underdelivered the dosage.
Malaysia doesn’t quite have to social capital to withstand this recession.

Based on our lagged and underpowered responses, we seem to have made light of that.
Perhaps the reason we didn’t take on the radical path is that this government knows they lack the moral legitimacy. They are scared of overstepping: current balance, fiscal deficit, debt limit, etc

They need the Parliament for the radical. And they are scared of the Parliament.
And so we have to suffer their insecurity.
