For some, home isn’t a safe place & in times of crisis levels of violence can increase. It's #ViolenceAgainstWomen Prevention Week & we must do more to address this in our communities. Thank you to all those working to support women fleeing & recovering from violence. /1
The fed govt announced $50m for women’s shelters & sexual assault centres to help manage or prevent outbreaks. But these groups were already struggling due to a chronic lack funding. I’ll continue to push for additional supports for these organizations. /2 https://globalnews.ca/news/5228696/canadian-shelters-women-funding/
If you have the means, this is a great week to donate to a local transition house, sexual assault centre or other organization working to end violence against women.
