Instead of asking, “Do you have any questions?” Try asking, “What are your questions?”
Instead of saying, “Let me know if you need anything.” Try saying, “I’m available tomorrow at 10:30 or 1:15. Which one of those times can you pop online with me quick to discuss your progress?
Instead of emailing this, “You didn’t do this and this and this. You really need to get that done or I’ll need to put a zero in the grade book.” Try this, “Are my directions clear because I didn’t see your work come through? Can you take a call from me so Incam explain?”
Instead of saying, “Spend 20 minutes doing xx.” Try saying, “the goal of the activity is x. When you think you’ve met the learning target, you can stop. And if you’ve practiced for 20 minutes and don’t feel comfortable, reach out and tell me what is tricking you.”
Precise language can have a huge impact on learning. Clarity is gold right now!
