Ok. Ok. I have a story to tell about an actual worst-case scenario that happened to me today when I ordered taco Bell through a delivery service. Please read. Worth it.
First, my order kept getting bumped back. It went from being here within 40 mins to an hour and a half to almost 2 hours.
Nearing the 1.5 hour mark, my driver seemed to get bumped and replaced with someone else who was thankfully already almost at the taco Bell
After he gets my food, he immediately turns in the opposite direction of my house and off the map. I'm starving and confused. When he doesn't reappear on the map, I text him asking if he's still en route. Like, did he make a wrong turn? Head to a gas station? Wtf
He doesn't respond but sure enough, he reappears and is heading toward me. As I'm getting up to retrieve my food, he texts "I'm here and leaving it on the porch!" And readers, this is where shit gets surreal.
I peek out the blinds just in time to see him drop the bag on my porch and then...you know how your brain can think things super fast and often layered? That's what happened next. Because he drops the bag and RUNS. So I think...am I getting pranked?
Or did he eat my food and he's trying to bail asap?
I'm thinking these things. And watching him run. AND finally noticing that his car is moving. Not backwards to the street but forwards down my driveway.
I turn around to set my food inside, my brain not able to keep up with what I'm seeing. And when I'm inside, I hear the Noise. A long, loud, scrape and crunch that seems to last an eternity.
Then I hear the screaming start.
Mf crashed into my house. He scraped down the side of it, landing in a corner where the house juts out further to the side. He slammed into four trash bins, throwing three down the drive and crushing one to pieces between the car and the house.
His driver door was pinned against the side of the house and...his leg was out. He jumped in to stop the car and didn't close the door. So he's screaming. Screaming enough that all the neighbors come out.
He's asking for help so I get my phone to call 911. His leg is bent weirdly. A neighbor jumps in to talk to him and tell him we can't help him. He's screaming and I'm trying to explain to 911 that delivery driver crashed into my house and was trapped.
When I say emergency services got there quick it was QUICK and it was all of them. my street was full of every kind of emergency vehicle you can imagine and my yard was swarming with first responders. In masks. Asking me questions.
I went back inside to put shoes on and imagine my surprise when I get back out and he's OUT and WALKING to the ambulance. He was... fine. Perfectly fine.
It's extremely hard to social distance when 100 cops and neighbors are asking questions. They pulled his car out of the corner but not fully out of the drive. They said they'd tow it or if he was ok, he'd have to tow it. That car was blocking the drive for another 2 hours
While he tinkered with a completely busted car trying to avoid a tow. He also said "oh that's my mess!" About the trash and tried to pick it up. I was like ....no I got it.
He eventually left, I ate my taco Bell and roomie alerted the landlord. Mostly I've sat here thinking "why didn't I just drive my ass to taco Bell."
An hour later I see this news headline and screamed WHAT but turns out it was ANOTHER car crashing into ANOTHER house in my neighborhood
Now the real question: would you complain to the delivery service?
