The fight for racial equity in #classicalmusic is outstandingly hard. I spend most of my days and all of my nights FIGHTING like y’all wouldn’t believe. Today has been particularly debilitating, and I have 12 hours to go.

...and then I see videos like these. 🙏🏾🙏🏾✊🏾✊🏾 THANK YOU!! https://twitter.com/kaybee727/status/1250194530948853760
It’s hard to explain how much of a challenge it is to see #classicalmusic organizations give us the back seat. Diversity is not one of our goal-intended buzz words - Black musicians are LITERALLY fighting against what I see as a vertex of institutionalized racism.
Martin Luther King Jr. once frustratingly noted that his greatest stumbling block were those who would say, “I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I can't agree with your methods of direct action”. I’d put a solid 90% of #classicalmusic organizations into that category.
I’ll conclude this impromptu, ‘I should be sleeping’ thread by saying this: I’m eternally and deeply grateful for everyone in this fight. I hope we’re all around when #classicalmusic culture affirms us all as much as it affirms this arguably Afro-descended composer...
