ok twitter, how do I learn about mining and geology

mining: how good are we at it? how did we get so good? could we get way better?

geology: how well do we understand rocks? how do we make those beautiful geology maps? what/are there open problems in the field?

in practice this is to better understand carbon mineralization, but I just want to get my head around the basics to start
