Y wrap F bluff. The fullback bluff blocks the defensive end, allowing the BSG to get across and kick the DE out.
“Tractor”, an outside zone run play fans should be familiar with as today’s 49ers run a similar fullback lead zone. Here, the fullback is specifically tasked with blocking the DE. Kendall Hunter was the primary back for Harbaugh I’m zone running plays.
Alex Smith threw some nice deep passes that year, like this one on vert shallow. Two verticals from the right side with a shallow cross underneath. The inside vertical angles toward the post, Vernon Davis angles out to the sideline. Smith drops it right in.
Inside zone with a pin and fold block. Joe Staley with the gold block into the A-gap on the backside of an inside zone run play.
Harbaugh “boss” run coin pet, outside zone that looks a lot like Shanahan’s “force”. Whereas Shanahan calls for the F to block the SAM on the edge or the SS if the SAM is off the ball, Harbaugh asks them F to block #4 to the play side.
