Tw // mentions of abuse and homophobia

Instead of getting mad that someone made a “I’m heterophobic” joke try to understand why we do. try to understand that the LGBT community has to constantly fight to feel accepted.
Try to understand that there’s times where a lot of us don’t even accept ourselves. Try to understand that a lot of us no longer have their family because they love different. Try to understand that a lot of us are in constant fear of being ourselves.
Try to understand that a lot of us never get the opportunity to be themselves. Try to understand that there are systems that work against us. Try to understand that there are laws don’t protect us.
Try to understand that it’s illegal for a lot of us to be who they are in their country. Try to understand that a lot of us have had to deal with jokes our whole lives and couldn’t defend ourselves. Try to understand that there’s times those jokes turn physical.
Try to understand that “heterophobia” can never actually hurt you while LGBTphobia hurts us everyday. Try to understand that all of this is because of cisallohets. You have the upper hand here, not us.
So when we make a joke understand that it’s a joke and it’s 100% harmless unlike yours.
