I think some ppl don't realize that ADHDers aren't joking or being haha funny when we say some of the stuff we go thru is genuinely physically painful, whether its extreme boredom, the freeze response from executive dysfunction or extreme anxiety related symptoms
its not uncommon for ADHD to come in a package deal with anxiety or depression, but the more physically painful or hard to deal with parts of anxiety make up the larger & more stressful portions of our physical, mental and emotional responses to ADHD-based symptoms
often things like continuous freeze responses from a constantly looped case of executive dysfunction can cause painful and terrifying panic attacks as you try to figure out how to get a job done, being unable to do it, berating yourself for it, then rinse and repeat
I think a case could be made for how ADHDers could potentially be at more risk of developing complications later down the line if they are unable regulate or manage the intense and often difficult ups and downs of stress, but im not a doctor so that's not concrete
but all I will say is, if you have a friend tell you how much their boredom or inability to finish a task is physically painful, do not mock them. that pain is very real and it genuinely hurts a lot, mocking them will only ever make it worse + force them to internalize it. / END
EXTRA: some of the "later complications" for ADHD aren't strictly medical in nature. some dangerous results of unmanaged ADHD include things like addiction, struggles with (healthy) relationships, issues with keeping down a job or balancing money, managing comorbidities etc.
ADHD isn't always doom and gloom, but for the parts that are hardest to deal with, ADHDers need as much understanding and respect for the extra weight on their shoulders as they go through life dealing with often unexplainable struggles.
