Growing up Poly you anticipate GRADUATION..the day you get to walk across the stage with your family “cheehoo-ing” for you when your name is called. You can’t wait to be mobbed by family members who have come from different states & countries....
Your family impatiently waiting for their turn to add another money or candy Ula (necklace) on to the Mountain already there. 😂 People are hugging, catching up & eating together. The love is tangible. You can feel it. It’s an experience that some of us will never feel again.
For some of us this is our last rite of passage into adulthood. And it’s a celebration I absolutely love in our community. Nobody celebrates this achievement like polys. Knowing this breaks my heart for our HS seniors even more.
I’m sorry class of 2020 who don’t get to Walk. My prayers are with you & all the seniors I DO know We’re celebrating you this whole summer for sure.
🎓
🙌🏾
So if you’re reading this & you know a senior I encourage you to find a way to celebrate them. Make them some ulas, find your cap & gown..Give em a little ceremony in the backyard.

Let’s not have our tradition of celebrating Graduation Skip the class of 2020.
