writing craft question:

"every scene must have a cause-and-effect trajectory"

maybe it's the fanfic writer in me, but I wonder if this is true because I *also* enjoy fluff scenes where we pause & get to know the characters, not always with consequences for actions.

& sorry, should've been clearer: the craft book I'm reading is saying each scene must have an external plot cause-and-effect trajectory. I totally agree that internal, emotional plot keeps moving in fluff scenes, too, but this craft book is saying that's not enough.

but I'm now feeling very validated that it *is* enough.
