THREAD: Thanks to @Hustle I’m able to text my #nvleg constituents at no cost to check in & offer assistance. Here are some highlights:
General summary:

-Lots of questions about unemployment & bills
-Biggest non-financial need is face masks
-Chatted w/ front line workers in health care, delivery services, and pawn shops
-People are struggling but I’m lifting up positivity here
-Not sharing identifying info
Lot's of support for actions taken by @GovSisolak. Most poignantly articulated by Nancy:

“I'm named for my grandmother who died in the 1918 pandemic. It's my responsibility to stay well and get through this.” #StayHomeForNevada
A shout-out to the helpers:

Joyce: "Should help in my neighborhood be needed, please let me know if I may contribute to your efforts"

Kathy goes to City Impact, then shares food with neighbors who can’t get out.

SR is helping seniors & delivering supplies to a community pantry
PR lives in a mobile home park, has compromised lungs. She offered a box of gloves for others in need. She's on a fixed income, but makes dinner to share with hungry neighbors
Thank you to federal & local govt partners!

I contacted @SenCortezMasto's office when Gina had a problem with Social Security. They were on it within in hour.

When EF told me there were squatters on her street, @tsegerblom's office sent it to code enforcement within an hour
I have also been reminding folks to fill out the Census at the end of my convos. Many already have!

MA said "I finished it right away I know I was a teacher and I understand the importance of grants for adult education programs and funding for public schools" @NVCensus2020
Diana said "We MUST get people to do their civic duty of filling out the census to help our state receive the government funds that we need."
Many others said they would or did fill out the Census thanks to my nudge.

Most said they had the paper sitting on the table but hadn't gotten to it earlier
I debated sharing the next two because I'm not trying to publicly pat myself on the back

But in addition to being the highest compliments I've ever received, they show the impact of reaching out, listening, and assisting in even small ways:
After I left cloth masks for his family at his doorstep, IT said:

"Wow I really appreciate it a lot. First time since I came to USA 19 years ago, someone promise & deliver"
And after giving honest answers about unemployment, MR said

"Wow I'm so impressed! You have personally helped me believe in the system. I dont feel so lost anymore. Thank you so much for your time."
Not one to end on a sappy note, I also received a request today for chicken nuggets, and got this gem from Paul:

"Is Taco Bell still doing free tacos today?"

(They are)
That's it for now, 2000 texts in.

Lots of people are safe at home, getting by and glad for the check-in. I might add to this thread more or tweet some additional highlights as I continue
