DWAYNE HASKINS THREAD

There were plenty of struggles throughout his rookie season but there were also a lot of bright spots to build off of. His grades as a backup and starter reflect that:

30.6 passing grade (2 games as backup)
73.3 passing grade (Weeks 9-17) 10th best in NFL
A lot of non-Redskins fans like to point to his box score and say he had a bad rookie year

In reality, some of his best throws from the season were either called back for a penalty or not caught despite great ball placement.

This first throw against the Jets still blows my mind
His first appearance against the Giants was not pretty. Haskins said himself that watching this game back "made him sick".

There's been a lot of reports about how the old coaching staff wasn't helping him develop and it really shows in these throws, he just didn't seem ready.
These are some smaller plays I liked because it showed his development

1st play, recognizes blitz pre-snap and slides the protection to his right

2nd play, good job maneuvering in the pocket to make the throw

Last play, perfect ball placement on an out route from the far hash
His natural arm talent has always been one of his best traits and he shows it on these two plays as he's able to place these balls perfectly in between the corner and safety
Because he has that arm strength he can get away with being a little late on plays like in this first clip.

That doesn't always work. In the second clip, he's late to notice Harmon and tries to throw it off his back foot resulting in a pick.
The worst part of his game last year was his inaccuracy at times.

Accuracy in the short and intermediate areas was one of his strong suits in college but so far in the NFL, it hasn't been.

He had the 8th highest percentage of uncatchable passes in the league.
Another part of his game that was frustrating was him taking sacks and causing his own pressure by either holding on to the ball for too long (like in the first two plays) or leaving a clean pocket too early (like in the last play)
Making plays out of structure was a surprising but impressive part of his game last year.

This wasn't something you really saw from him in college, but in his rookie season, he showed he can maneuver outside of the pocket and make plays.
Like with all rookies, especially QBs, he showed some struggles. But he showed throughout the season why he was a first-round pick. The flash plays are there, now it's about consistency.

I'm really excited for year 2 and think he has a bright future ahead of him. #HTTR
