For all the people suddenly realising the crisis in social care...it gives me zero pleasure to say we told you so.
If someone doing a so-called McJob can earn over 4 times what I do for looking after a human being, there's a very flawed societal system in there.
It's not simply the money, though undoubtedly does the labour not merit an appropriate income?
It's the value placed on the act of caring, the rights that ought to be alongside our many responsibilities.
Right to a living income
Right to time off/holidays
Right to health and safety training/equipment
Right to emergency care
Right to an occupational pension.
I don't have any of these as an unpaid carer.
I want my life/Joff's life reflected/represented in the Scottish Government.
But as our family normally benefits much from a day service, in the past residential short break respite, once a month Crossroads care...the value placed on care workers is woeful.
Joff's carers are amazing people, humane, pragmatic, funny & nimble. They enrich our lives so much.
