hey, I was unintentionally hurtful in this thread and I want to explain why, take responsibility for it and apologize. I said here that Cindy and Caitlyn look alike, which isn’t inherently problematic until...
the convo moved to surgery. someone responded and said that Caitlyn used Cindy as the blueprint for her surgery. I said what I /thought/ was just defending Caitlyn, saying Cindy had also had work done. My intent was to say that Cindy didn’t have the same face she used to either.
the issue here is that I’m comparing Cindy’s anti-aging procedures to Caitlyn’s gender-affirming surgeries, in a way that dismisses both of them as a part of celebrity culture, which Caitlyn’s is not. As @sagareejain so kindly explained to me, it reinforces the harmful narrative-
that trans women are somehow “copying” cis women when they have procedures done to affirm their gender. While that wasn’t my intent, my words were still ignorant and hurtful, and I’m so sorry for that. I am grateful to folks who are willing to hold me accountable-
and help me to be a better ally. It’s always my goal to continue to learn and grow, and that starts with taking the time to reflect when my actions are hurtful and harmful.
