I am a little sad we are finally going to get widespread use of telemedicine because doctors have discovered they love it, not because disabled people have been saying for years that we need it. https://twitter.com/choo_ek/status/1250085349218385923
The world gets better—for everyone—when we accommodate what disabled people need to participate, live well, or survive.

Elevators, sidewalk ramps, telemedicine, telecommuting, universal access to healthcare—we like nice things!
What might have changed of doctors’ perception of me and my illness if they could have seen me when I was too sick to leave home?

Context matters. I hope going forward medical professionals can be more Jane Jacobs, less Robert Moses.
I have such deep gratitude for medical professionals, the transformative role many have played in my life, and the risks and sacrifices so many are making daily. ♥️♥️♥️
There is a lot that needs to change in the wake of this pandemic. I promise medicine will only get better—for you and for us—if you listen to what we say we need.

In turn, you will find in us some pretty fierce and experienced allies! ✊🏼♥️🔥
PS— @choo_ek is the cat’s meow and you should all follow her. She is expressing a sentiment I have heard a lot of doctors express in the past few weeks. And it’s fundamentally a good thing, for all of us.
