I think people who complain about documentary and tour schedule and how everything works, usually have very little information about technical things that happen behind the scenes. I've worked on festivals/concert backstages, MV sets, movie sets etc so I'll tell you what I know+
+ when you work with an artist (especially famous one) you have to sign NDA (non disclosure agreement). Sometimes only close staff who has a pass to backstage has to, sometimes everyone. That document is very important and very powerful. +
+NDA says everything you can and can't do while working with the company. That document should be well crafted and tight, which depends on how good lawyer is, now imagine how good BH's lawyers are.
Costumes (since I saw someone complaining about heaviness) I know many costume department staff and trust me they think about everything, all the time. Of course sometimes it inevitable for it to be heavily because of material/decoration etc but +
+of course they try to make it lighter and comfier. Also, if you use thin material it will rip easily especially when you have tour and same costumes should last. +
+now makeup/hair - as a makeup artist who worked with many singers/actors/models I can assure you that we are not creeps. Most of us are used to it and just want to do our job. Makeup for stage, interviews, MVs are all different! +
+ if you do same makeup for stage as you do for camera, it will do nothing! If you do stage makeup for interview person will look like a clown. For people who complained about makeup artists crowding them on backstage and touching them all together - that's our job+
+ we usually have seconds to dry artist's skin while they are still overheating and sweating and correct makeup which is extremely hard because it slides on damp skin. Hence that many blow-dryers. +
+ backstage - backstage and artists room are different!! Artists usually use those rooms before and after the show. In between they are in backstage with everyone, and that everyone is soooo much people you have no idea. +
+You haven't seen any leaked photos from backstage? That means NDA is tight and everyone has to sign it.
+ staff - as far as I know most of the staff are BH in house staff (correct me if I'm wrong) so they have different contracts, which I'm sure is even more detailed than simply NDA. There will always be creeps, you can't run away from that but+
+ if we haven't had a huge leak yet, that means 1) they choose their people carefully. 2) they monitor their people carefully. +
+ movie making - now, this is tricky because there is a line between planned documentary and "filming in natural habitat". +
1) those documentaries have a script! They don't film it every day, all day, all 10 months. Technically that's impossible - you choose days, location, crew. You need different equipment. This is not Bangtan bomb girl following them with vlogging camera. +
+ I can guess that 90% of the film is planned. Now let's define "planned" - with documentary it's loose - for staff it's "we are gonna shoot backstage today, make it more clean, collected." +
+ for artists it's - " we will be shooting today, makeup crew will see you before we start, please don't wear anything that you don't want to show on camera, please don't curse" - mostly like this. +
+why makeup if it's a documentary? - because camera changes skin colour and texture, it's extra work for editors. +
+ script is always! Always! Run beforehand with actors. Now you might say that they are not actors, which is true but they are being filmed for a film on specific days - they are actors but not necessarily acting. Let me elaborate+
+ documentaries have a guide ! They know what will happen and what will be filmed! They have a say in what will be filmed. Are they always happy about it? Who knows !? Maybe they didn't like the pants they wore that day and regret not changing, we'll never know +
+ the scenes when they are vulnerable? I can assure you that's not a filming crew, that's probably someone who films for Bangtan bomb and those scenes transfer to filmmakers. +
+ many many things happen in backstage and there is not a single show or set where everything goes 100% smoothly. Something is always happening starting from some cable not working, to wardrobe malfunction, to stomach ache ! +
+ best set is the set when peoyare ready for this situations. You see people helping them with oxygen? That means they know it can happen, they are ready for it. And artists ask for them themselves! +
+ because good artist knows their limits! Do they push those limits ? Yes! Are they ready for the consequences ? Yes! That doesn't mean it's good but you have to remember that shows are oriented on fans not the artist. It sounds bad but+
+ that's how it works. You see 2 hour perfection which needs sleepless nights and pushing limits from other people. When you say that you don't like seeing them tired beyond measure you are actually not appreciating their afford. +
+ remember when Joon said more tired they are that means more fun we are having. That is true. Of course I'm not happy that they are overworking themselves as a fan and as a person but from crew point of view, if I was there I would be extremely proud and try to support+@
As much as I can to make their affords easier. That's the only thing crew can do! Everyone has to do their job. Artists should sing and dance, makeup should be organised and ready at any moment, sound crew should be concentrated and many many more. +
+ everyone cares about everyone because they have same goal ! That's how it works. +
Now this is my/my friend's experience and since we worked with many different people from many different countries I can say that 95% of the time this is how it works no matter the nationality.
