I finally feel like I have my land-legs a week after returning from the month-long #GoA2020 expedition. It was one of the most memorable experiences of my life and I've been wanting to share some of my favourite #zooplankton that I found while at sea! 1/10
There were many familiar faces, even several hundred kilometers of the coast. This squat lobster baby was less than impressed with his capture in our bongo net! 2/10
And these glass shrimp added a splash of colour to the many grey days at sea! 3/10
Are these happy #zoops or are they happy zoops?? After spending most of my days studying #coastal zooplankton, I was SHOCKED at how big some of these critters could get. How many species can you spot? 4/10
Not quite a zoop, but an amazing find all the same! This is an eel larva that we found in one of our first trawls - we ended up finding them through the duration of the cruise. Their faces!!!!!! 5/10 (NB: their faces are a 10/10, but this is tweet 5/10 in this thread)
Perhaps not a shocker, but flatfish larvae are in fact, pretty flat! And quite a fun find. 6/10
Almost nothing gives me the joy of discovering a creature that is so aptly named. This beauty is called a fried egg jellyfish! We saw many of these in our trawls - up to 50cm! 7/10
