scalding hot and underformed take:

gamers are more likely to be conservative in part because they spend so much time engulfed by systems of advancement and progress where rules are quite literally unbreakable, ie the code does not allow you to go out of bounds
contrast this with irl sports, where you can do literally anything within the bounds of your own agency, and the consequences aren't predetermined.
just speaking personally, I don't really consider myself a very out-of-the-box thinker, and I think part of that was cause of how enmeshed in gaming I've always been, and that that's transferred to my political views
it's just harder to envision changes to the status quo when you're trained to accept it as is regardless of whether you even enjoy it.
also I guess ethics in gaming journalism etc etc etc
