An aspect of theatre I have always been drawn to is how non static it is. At the onset of a production you start with nothing, then you build something, and when it’s over, you tear it down. The space becomes blank....awaiting to come alive again.
The very nature of the art form calls for constant re-invention. Theatre is not something you go to; it is not a set stationary thing. Nor just a building, with rules and limitations. It is completely unwritten, waiting for pen to hit paper, to be erased, and written again.
I have never believed in sticking to the past. “We have always done it this way” is the first step to losing theatre.

Theatre yearns to be reborn. It asks to be torn down, so it can be built anew.
In this new world, how can we create better relationships with our communities? How have we learned to create more access for others? Can we leave the elitism of the art form in the past, and move forward into a future where everyone has the ability to see and be seen?
I am challenging myself to move forward. I can’t create the way I used to. Maybe that is okay. The set has been torn down. However, I am excited for the collaborations that are coming, and the next Set we build, and rebuild, and reimagine. And it will be better than ever before.
