I want this to be my final comment on the recent SSPX kerfuffle:

People have made up their minds regarding the Society, for better or worse. No one, it seems, is going to have their mind changed by laymen. So let's just move on. (cont)

If you believe in good conscience you can assist at SSPX Masses and receive absolution and the other sacraments from their priests, good for you.

If you believe the SSPX are to be avoided at all costs, that's your opinion. Nothing I say will change that. (cont)

Rome, of course, has done us no favors on this over the past three decades by being deliberately obtuse and opaque on this matter. So please, let's all stop trying to take sentences out of context and prooftext papal documents and other declarations. (cont)

I will double down on what I said yesterday:

At a time when most "full communion" priests are nowhere to be found, the SSPX are doing what they can to administer the sacraments and teach the Faith to the laity. That alone should speak volumes.
