There are hard decisions everywhere about Covid19. In Nz right now people are not getting cancer diagnosis while we try to break the chain of infection. This is a huge sacrifice. 1/
2/The evidence about is this the best is limited wherever we look. And evidence is never the neutral judge we think it is when the issue is really about human values and principles. Something we struggle in dominant discourse to articulate & grapple with.
3/We are in, as my brother in law says, zugzwang. But we have to move. So how do we decide? We talk to those with the least power, most affected by this pandemic & we use a values framework. ‘Getting Through Together’ was written b/c the authors knew exactly this would happen.
4/As we go on things will only get harder, less clear. We must progress past arguments over facts, it polarises and divides, it steers us away from grappling with what matters. Facts matter, after we have decided what is important as a collective to value
