I’ll let you in on a little something from the subculture of “big accounts” on Twitter.

Ordinary people who have followings only on here. People without any outside notoriety or reasons to be followed. People like me.

Some of us talk amongst ourselves.

1/
We share the same weird, surreal experience of having people suddenly read what we say.

That’s a strange thing. It takes some adjustment. It comes with some really unfun baggage. Haters, trolls, unhinged people who try to fuck with your real life over words said on Twitter.

2/
So, there’s some affinity among accounts of people familiar with all that.

In those conversations though, you quickly ascertain that there are two kinds of people behind “Regular Joe big accounts”.

3/
There are the blunt, straight shooters who speak their mind abjectly indifferent to who approves and doesn’t.

And there are self-promoters who tailor what they say to gather likes and followers.

4/
The former, the people who are just being themselves publicly, are quick to reach out *when they think you might need something*.

They reach out if they see you getting swarmed or smeared or doxed.

5/
The self-promoters reach out only when they want something - and it is usually that they want you to amplify something they clearly think will “play well” to a larger audience.

6/
When you see “popular accounts” of regular people on here, bear that in mind.

They’re either writing to speak their mind or writing for attention.

I have no patience for the attention-seekers. I find no earnestness in their states views and see no value in their product.

7/
I’d far rather read accounts I sometimes disagree with who are clearly speaking from personal conviction than read people posturing as thought leaders and pumping out tweets for likes and applause.

8/
I’m not sure how obvious the difference is from the outside but on the back end it is clear as day.

I can do without the self-promoters.

Maybe that’s just me.
