We published this story last month, warning of the massive disruptions that could be in store for PA& #39;s child welfare system when schools and day care centers closed their doors. https://www.penncapital-star.com/covid-19/the-perfect-storm-how-covid-19-has-multiplied-the-risk-for-children-in-abusive-households/">https://www.penncapital-star.com/covid-19/...
Followed up today with a look at ChildLine call volumes. They& #39;ve been cut in half in the last four weeks, confirming what what child welfare caseworkers and advocates feared: that kids would be vulnerable to abuse when educators weren& #39;t there to report it https://www.penncapital-star.com/covid-19/pa-s-child-abuse-hotline-is-now-run-out-of-employees-homes-but-receiving-far-fewer-tips-than-normal/">https://www.penncapital-star.com/covid-19/...
Caseworkers told me last month that they weren& #39;t getting protective gear and hand sanitizer that would help them feel safe when conducting home visits and welfare checks. As of last week, they& #39;re still not getting what they need, a CYS administrator told us.
