as the parent of a biracial child, i'm creeped out by the fetishization of such children, even as babies. on a very popular baby forum i'm in,there are frequent calls for "mixed baby pics" & i'm always annoyed by them. "mixed babies" are just like other babies.+
i don't want my child thinking, thanks to our racist society, that she is somehow better or different or special because her parents are classified differently on the census.
i understand that for racists, bi/multiracial pairings are an abomination, but the answer to this is not to turn our children into some sort of special beings. the response is to treat their existence just as you would that of any other child.
and, to add, this is the kind of casual racism dressed up as a compliment that is hard to combat. i can imagine now if i were to post something on the forum about this, ppl would respond that i was taking things too srsly or whatever, but it matters+
fetishization of bi/multiracial children is almost always a softening of racist ideas about what nonwhite people look like. it's about praising difference, but in a way that relies on racist beauty norms & weird eugenics-based crap abt strength & survival ("best of both worlds")
