no offense but if someone who speaks and knows Japanese culture is trying to explain Japanese queer content terms and history, and you tell them "I don't care if you're Japanese, shut up", you're a shit person who has no right to speak over any Japanese queer person.
Multiple of us have been explaining so many times that words like "bara" and "fujoshi" do not mean what western fans think it means. The latter has been used in the "anti-fujo" movement, which was started by a fucking TERF. So forgive me for not wanting westerners to echo that.
Stop trying to tell us what to be offended by, stop telling us when to shut up and when to speak. really, it's bordering on racist how often people shut actual Japanese mlm and queers down when we try to educate. It isn't a good look.
Do you guys know how tiring it is, to navigate western fandom and having people misuse words every day, yelling at you when you try to correct them? Imagine you're in a community where they changed the meaning of "sapphic" to "terf" or something, and seeing people use it like so.
Also, just because BL is marketed towards women, it doesn't mean "only gross straight women read it". Men and women both read BL, a lot of them being queer. It's just marketed towards women bc of the industry being quite sexist with the whole "romance is for women".
Geicomi is mlm comic more geared for men, although both men and women read and write it. It's usually more sex-focused and kinky, hence marketed towards men. Again, industries being kinda sexist. So all you people saying how BL is problematic and for the straighties, listen up.
BL is the LESS sexual and kinky of the two. People who claim geicomi are wholesome and unproblematic are wrong-- there's a shit ton of tropes and kinks that people hate on BL for, arguably more. The main issue Japanese mlm usually have with BL are too much romance and too pretty.
So before you all try to speak over Japanese voices on our history and content, maybe try and listen to us and don't dismiss us because we don't fit your criteria for "person who should speak about BL". It'd help a lot.
