Gonna start correcting people when they call my preference for cleanliness in specific moments OCD, or joke about having ADHD, or tbh whatever it is.
Words mean things, and not only are you confusing, you’re invalidating and putting down people’s experiences. Choose other words.

Furthermore, I’m irritated at the people who have a bad day or get scared abt smth within reason, then take that and say “we ALL get depressed and anxious!” My guy, my anxiety and depression have forcibly taken the reigns of my life and crashed into brick walls. It’s not the same
Your moment of fear, while valid, is not the same as me feeling genuinely unsafe in leaving the house because my brain endlessly invents ways I could die.
Your moment of being sad for a week or so, while valid, is not the same as me feeling suicidal for months at a time

People joke about autism and use the R slur as if there aren’t massive public organizations centered around trying to “cure” or eradicate a different method of functioning as a human. As if said groups haven’t defended parents who wanted to murder their child for being different
As though people aren’t relentlessly harassed and tormented from a young age for looking different, as though the education systems aren’t extra broken around assisting people who may struggle in certain areas and instead treats them as though they’re all in a binary of function.
Ppl say “haha Nam flashbacks” or “I’m triggered” and don’t recognize how terrifying and exhausting trying to exist in every day situations is when you have panic attacks sprung upon you from a seemingly benign situation being presented. Having to relive trauma constantly.
People joke about ADHD despite not knowing how it is to live in a frustrating hellscape in which you simultaneously want to do everything and cannot do anything at all, forget things constantly, have ridiculous difficulty sitting down and completing basic tasks, it’s life ruining
I would make a tweet about every single one of these if I had the time or experience, but I only have my viewpoints as someone with PTSD, autism, ADHD, depression, and anxiety.
If you’d like, feel free to add to this with your own experiences.

I have rambled for too long, so here is my end to this thread:
Your jokes, though seemingly lighthearted, remove the power from these words/terms and the very real experiences attached to them. They snatch the ability to easily articulate one’s symptoms from their mouth and leave them struggling even more than before.
