ok.
i'm self-employed. i write books/comics, do speaking gigs, am a professional gay.
I pay ALLLLLL my taxes.
and yet, i'm ineligible to file for unemployment because i'm self-employed.
why can't that tax money be sent to me as relief during a global pandemic?

and this isn't an angry shout into the void. i'm seriously asking. i know there's someone out there who knows politics and finance stuff that can actually answer this question.
i mean, i'm angry as fuck and scared to death, but also am just trying to reach out into my community and ask. like isn't this, among many things, exactly what are taxes are for?
why would they rather i file for a LOAN than just send me what i need?
my debt makes them money but if i don't have MONEY TO PAY THEM, how do they make money from my debt?
what are numbers? what the fuck?

and ok i'm self-employed but damn i work with libraries, colleges, schools, small businesses, youth programs, GSAs, comic book shops, and yes, even big corporations sometimes so like that's not just me
