ghost trick introduction thread to convince people to watch a play through during quarantine ✨
- the premise of the game is that you play as a recently deceased ghost who has to solve his own murder. as a ghost, you have the ability to possess objects in the landscape and move them to affect the scene around you in a sort of haunted rube goldberg style puzzle.
- you’re joined in this quest by a cheerful young detective named Lynne, who sets a record of dying like a dozen times in one night.

luckily for her & several others, it turns out you have a special ability:to rewind time back to four minutes before a death to try to prevent it.
- you have until sunrise to solve the mystery of what happened to you, and how you relate to the conspiracy that seems to snake through every character you come across. if you can’t figure it out in time? you cease to exist.

and every answer only raises more questions.
now, though the story of ghost trick is strong and well executed, it’s real charm comes from the characters. I’m not trying to make this game out to be perfect, because it isn’t, but the sheer personality ghost trick infuses into every facet of it is enough to warrant playing.
Ghost Trick is written and directed by Shu Takumi, of Ace Attorney fame. This influence is everywhere. And one thing that both Ace Attorney and Ghost Trick do well is visual characterization - Ghost Trick in particular is famous for its fantastic animations.
the designs and animations identify their personalities right away, and they’re just over the top enough to bring needed levity to a thrilling game.

the above character is an Elvis-like police inspector. the woman here is a romance novelist whose hair “blooms” when she’s angry.
All of the characters are wrapped up in the mystery of your death, or get drawn into it over the course of the night. Their relationships with each other drive the plot. And they’re so loveable that the typical protagonist hero syndrome doesn’t feel forced- you WANT to save them.
The only issue I have with Ghost Trick is that I’m absolutely terrible with puzzles. Especially timed puzzles. But you get to retry it infinitely, and trial and error is built into the gameplay. You’re not supposed to get it on the first try. But Sissel will keep trying.
