You have to think of

1. This thing i am about to say, how’s this person going to feel?
2. Can it be said in a way that it won’t come off as being offensive?
3. Is it necessary to be said?
4. If someone does this to me how would i feel?

Consider these 4 things.

The food could have been salty, spicy, not tasty etc but you don’t give a bad review in such a situation. You have to apply wisdom at this point and think of the 4 things i earlier mentioned. If the boy had come to your house and said this about your mother would you like it?

So, you compliment even if you are not being honest. I repeat, because something is the truth doesn’t mean it should be said. It’s better to say i had a nice time with your family, your Mum’s reception really wowed me. She even had the time to cook, God bless her.

I don’t know about their relationship or how far it would go but this is a general advice, Becareful of the things you say, even if you mean well. Be sensitive about how people feel. Honesty is good but you have to understand where empathy comes in and honesty leaves.

Let’s say you meet someone with a mouth odor. First you don’t know if this person has a medical condition. You don’t know if they are trying hard to make it stop, you don’t know their history and you are putting in their face that their mouth is smelling and mocking them.

That person goes home to feel bad. Is their mouth smelling? Yes it is. But the way you handled it is not the best. This isn’t a very easy thing to handle if you don’t have wisdom. How about take them to a quiet place, make them feel comfortable, come up with stories

about how you have helped people handle their situation, once you see that they are getting chatty with you then you ask them if they are aware that they have a smell? What have they tried to do, render help. Maybe get them a toothpaste you think would work

Trust me that person would pray for you and be your best buddy.
