The Minnesota House of Representatives is coming into session for the latest round COVID-19 response legislation and to pass the Alec Smith Insulin Affordability Act

. @NSmithholt12, who has been pushing lawmakers to approve the insulin legislation for months, is looking on from the gallery with her husband James. Before lawmakers got started, House Speaker Melissa Hortman waved up at both of them.
Lawmakers have wrapped up the roll. Up next is the insulin proposal.
. @mikehowardmn thanks Nicole Smith-Holt and James Holt for pushing this plan along with others. Howard says it’s a good day in Minnesota. The bill is named after Alec Smith, who died after rationing his insulin because he couldn’t afford it.
Minority Leader Kurt Daudt says the bill is unnecessary, manufacturers are providing the insulin to those in need.
“A mighty few became an unstoppable source for good in this world,” Howard says in closing comments.
Members are voting on the proposal.

“We’re not supposed to,” @NSmithholt12 tells @mikehowardmn after the bill’s passage, but they hug one another despite social distancing recommendations.
“I heard Alec telling me not to stop,” @NSmithholt12 told reporters. The measure moves next to the Senate.
