[THREAD ]So, letters written FROM Auschwitz by a #Holocaust survivor in my wife's family are being sold on @eBay. And the seller refuses to return them to seller, instead demanding payment. He has already sold 12 family letters from the collection. @AuschwitzMuseum, can you help?
These letters were written by Jerzy Modelski whose father died in Auschwitz. Jerzy is @danpogofc's grandfather. The letters went missing from the family under suspicious circumstances.

Here is the response from the seller when asked to return the letters to the family.
I am absolutely appalled, heartbroken, and incensed as a family member and an historian. The Modelski family had four members sent to Auschwitz. One was killed there. The Modelskis were members of the Polish Home Army (the underground).
I cannot believe a #Holocaust survivor's family is being forced to pay for some of the only surviving evidence from a very painful history.

Please retweet this message in the hopes that someone can stop this and potentially return those already sold.
This is the seller:
Here is their business information.

Update: The seller is now discounting one of the letters.

What kind of a despicable person does this?!?

(note: someone tagged him in one of the responses so I can only guess that he is monitoring this now.)
Tagging @AskeBay @eBayNewsroom as well.

Surely there is a policy against profiting from Holocaust-related artifacts, particularly when the rightful owners have been identified?

@Holocaust_Hud, Jerzy was the brother of Teofil Modelski who lived in Huddersfield after the war.
Seems...relevant.
Further update...one of my amazing followers has been in touch with @azteccollect and he is exactly the kind of person you think he is.
