The 2018-19 season was a historic one for NEUFC, it was the first and till date the only time that the Highlanders managed to qualify for the playoffs.

But after the highs of 2018-19 came the low of 2019-20,

The club lost some of its most important players :

1. Mato Grgić went to Mumbai
2. Rowllin Borges to Mumbai
3. Bartholomew Ogbeche to Kerela
4. Federico Gallego missed half of the season

and this thread is an attempt to quantify this loss.

These 4 happend to be among the 5 most used players by the club in the 2018-19 season.

Borges led the line in terms of interceptions with Gallego and Grgic also in the top5.

Grgic also made the most blocks in the squad with Gallego and Borges again being among the top5 in this respect.

Gallego and Borges were among the first responders when the ball was lost & attempted the 2nd and 4th most tackles in the squad.

Gallego, Borges & Ogbeche were responsible for 76.3% of the goals scored by the club that season.

Grgic was their top defensive contributor.

These 4 were also very involved in the build-up play with Gallego & Borges attempting the most passes.

Ogbeche out shot everyone by a mile while Gallego came second and Borges third.

Gallego while playing in the 'hole' just behind the ST also managed to deliver the most crosses (56) with Borges & Ogbeche putting in 7 and 8 respectively.

The club lost their top scorer in Ogbeche with 12 goals.
Two of the most influential midfield players in Borges and Gallego (for half of the season).
One half of their main CB pairing in Grgic, which conceded the LEAST amount of goals (18) among all the teams.

In hindsight, looking back at the numbers put up by these players, the disastrous season that followed doesn't seem too surprising.
