For those you you trying to predict where we are headed in education - please pause a little longer. If you are currently asking, How do we catch up in the Fall? I think you are asking the wrong question. And I'm not sure we're ready for those questions just yet... 1/7
One set of ?s that I do think is super important and timely is... How is what we are doing working or not? How are we connecting with our community & how can we continually improve that effort? How are we going to reach out to the students that are most disengaged/vulnerable? 2/7
And then if you want to think about the future - I think the VERY FIRST THING you need to consider is... When this happens again, how will we enter this space with more grace and intentionality than this last round afforded us? 3/7
Out of those triage style decisions - what was solid, what needs work, what would we never do again? What supplies, protocols & procedures will we implement to be better poised to handle something like this in the future? (b/c I hope we aren't here again, but it's possible) 4/7
Then we wait-we went through the 1st phase of 'We're closing the building', next phase of 'Oh, man we're running emerg. remote teaching/learning', the phase we are in now, 'Now that I know better, I'm doing better' & headed into the how will we be better at this in the future 5/7
B/c anyone saying that we know what the Summer & Fall is going to look like - isn't sure about that either. We're still in lock down in most of the country- it's time to breathe a little, still take care of folks as much as we can. Learn what we can under these circumstances 6/7
We're not at the 'How do we catch up phase yet' and I would posit it's entirely the wrong question to begin with. 7/7
