Surprised members of my preaching section today with my perhaps rather bleak take that, without the bodily resurrection of Jesus, the best read of human history is one of unending catastrophe ending in our individual deaths and eventually the death of the species.
But, like *gestures around at everything*
(This is where I might be accused of being a little too dialectical, and needing to engage more deeply with Christian humanism. That might be right. But also, I came by it honest, via a chastened Marxism & the experience of labor organizing)
(And mostly just my man Walter Benjamin. The angel of history haunts me.)
