Ambedkar , The Social Reformer!

Ambedkar is a leader par excellence and known internationally. He gave the call to "Educate, Agitate and Organise". He was a master in diverse fields. He championed the cause of social justice and annihilation of caste.

With the Mahad Satyagraha, Ambedkar didn't just assert the rights of Dalits to take water from public sources but this historic movement laid the foundation of Dalit emancipation. Another historic act in line was when he burnt the Manusmriti after exposing the laws of Manu.
In 1929 , Ambedkar testified before the Southborough Commission for Separate Electorates and was even successful by receiving the Communal Award. But he had to settle for the Poona Pact which provided reserved constituencies after Gandhi went onto fast.

Ambedkar participated in all the three Round Table Conferences and shook the base of brahmanical and patriarchal forces. He advocated a society based on liberty, equality and fraternity.

In 1935 , Ambedkar was invited by Jat - Pat Todak Mandal of Lahore but the invitation was withdrawn after realising the radical nature of the speech that Ambedkar . Ambedkar later published the "Annihilation of Caste " - a radical text which exposes the brahmanism.
In 1936 , Ambedkar addressed the Mumbai Elaka Mahar Parishad while Gandhi was formulating nis view on the "ideal Bhangi". When Congress adopted Gandhi's term Harijan, Ambedkar protested by walking out of the Bombay Legislative Assembly.

In 1946 , Ambedkar exchanged letters with W. EB Dubois and forged solidarity of the 'Untouchables' with the black americans.
In 1947, Ambedkar published "States and Minorities" - a memorandum on Fundamental Rights, minority rights, safeguards of Depressed Classes and the problem of Indian States. In 1951, he brought the Hindu Code Bill for gender equality, focused on the question of gender even before.
For the development of the country he established the Central Water Commission, Central Technical Power Board and Central Electricity Authority. Through this the potential of hydel and thermal energy was to be explored.
In the last years of his life, Ambedkar founded the Bhartiya Buddha Mahasabha and embraced Buddhism. This was the largest conversion that ever took place. In 1956 , he organized a public ceremony where 5 lakh people converted to Buddhism.
