I'm going absolutely insane trying to understand the way the common is being policed right now. None of us needed any confirmation that this continent is obsessed with car culture but closing a SAFER walking route is insulting.
Ppl in my neighborhood without a car can't get to a grocery store without walking through the common. It's not just a park! It's a green space with PAVEMENT paths! Walking around it could take an extra 20 mins in some cases, plus increase pedestrian traffic on surrounding streets
I am absolutely furious at the province for giving carte blanche to the police to do whatever the fuck they want in the name of "public safety." How long until this turns into discriminatory police violence? Is it already happening?

Obviously this is not just happening in Halifax. Here's another good piece of writing on the topic: https://twitter.com/TabathaSouthey/status/1249823067037151232?s=19
