Competency in leadership matters. Scientific literacy matters. The ability to focus on the national interest, not one’s selfish interest, matters. @realDonaldTrump missed opportunity after opportunity to save lives and lead us in the right direction because he lacks all of these. https://twitter.com/ericliptonnyt/status/1249904886751338496
To analogize, this is our political leadership holding onto the yoke and refusing to change the plane’s course as the instrumentation makes it clear the plane is nosediving into the ground. This type of leadership was seen in Star Wars, too.
If our leadership can’t be trusted to do the right thing in situations like this—where the correct course of action is clear and the costs of errors are seen within weeks—why should we have any faith they will do the right thing when errors will only be evident decades later?
Climate change is real. It’s coming (we have seen just the tip of the iceberg). We have to vote for competent, scientifically literate, ethical leadership. Our lives, our parents’, our children’s lives—everyone’s lives—depend on it. We’re all in the same boat, as covid-19 shows.
Taking individual responsibility is great. Stay home now. Buy green. But the fact we still have 7 states that have not closed proves the point: these are collective action problems that require solutions—leadership—by us electing the right people to Congress and the Presidency.
What a wonderful coincidence. Shortly after I posted this thread this morning, @BarackObama released a video that includes the same message. https://twitter.com/podsaveamerica/status/1250102226007117824?s=21 https://twitter.com/podsaveamerica/status/1250102226007117824
